About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for OET Speaking Sub-test Interlocutors to support the delivery of the Occupational English Test (OET) at West London College.

The role involves conducting speaking tests in line with awarding body requirements, following set scripts and standardised procedures at all times. Interlocutors will participate appropriately in role-plays with candidates, manage test timings accurately, complete required administrative documentation, and ensure that each candidate receives a fair, secure, and consistent testing experience.

Strong communication skills and the ability to follow standardised procedures are essential.

Interlocutor work is paid and offered on an ad-hoc basis, subject to availability and suitability. Where required, successful applicants will need to complete the OET interlocutor online training before undertaking the role.

Person Specification / Minimum Professional Requirements:

English Language Requirements:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised university or educational institution
  • English language proficiency equivalent to CEFR C1 level or above
  • Clear diction and intelligibility, including outside the local testing region
  • High levels of linguistic accuracy
  • Ability to communicate fluently, confidently, and competently in an interview context
  • English proficiency is not defined by native-speaker status. All applicants must meet the same language requirements.

Training and Test Knowledge:

  • Completion of the OET Interlocutor online training and certification prior to conducting any Speaking sub-test
  • Willingness to complete refresher or additional training if required
  • Full understanding of OET Speaking sub-test procedures, including:
  • Candidate identity checks
  • Accurate delivery of scripts and timings
  • Appropriate participation in role-plays
  • Secure handling of live test materials
  • Completion of all administrative documentation
  • Consistent delivery of the Speaking sub-test for every candidate

Professional Skills and Attributes:

  • Responsible, dependable, flexible, reliable, and punctual
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work to deadlines and follow awarding body and College documentation
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity when interacting with a diverse candidate cohort
  • Professional presentation and conduct as a representative of West London College
  • Competent use of recording equipment as instructed
  • Ability to deal with unexpected situations professionally without compromising test integrity
  • Willingness to receive guidance and respond to feedback during training or monitoring
  • Awareness of the requirement to report incidents to the Venue Manager and complete Incident Report Forms
  • Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest:
  • Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality and test security
  • Awareness of candidate privacy requirements
  • Must not conduct the Speaking sub-test with any candidate with whom there is a professional or social relationship (e.g. teacher, relative, friend)
  • Must not be in direct contact with such candidates on test day

Appointment Process:

Applicants who meet the above requirements will be required to complete Interlocutor induction and training sessions before being formally offered work as an OET Speaking Sub-test Interlocutor at West London College.
