About the role:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Health and Safety to lead and manage health and safety across the College’s three campuses.
Reporting to the Director of Estates and Infrastructure, the Head of Health and Safety will provide leadership, advice and guidance at all levels of the organisation. You will act as the central point for all health and safety matters, ensuring the College meets its statutory and legislative obligations while promoting a strong and positive safety culture.
The role will be responsible for developing and implementing effective health and safety management systems, policies and procedures that ensure safe working and learning environments for staff, students and visitors.
You will work closely with senior leaders, managers and key stakeholders to ensure compliance with legislation, drive continuous improvement and embed health and safety best practice across all areas of the College.
The successful candidate will:
- Provide strategic leadership for health and safety across the College.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation including the Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
- Develop and implement health and safety policies, procedures and management systems.
- Lead a culture of continuous improvement in health, safety and wellbeing practices.
- Oversee accident and incident reporting, investigation and resolution processes.
- Implement risk assessment and hazard identification processes across all College activities.
- Lead on fire safety, emergency evacuation procedures, lockdown arrangements and First Aid provision.
- Develop and deliver effective health and safety training programmes for staff.
- Manage the health and safety audit programme and ensure improvement actions are implemented.
- Provide assurance to the Senior Leadership Team and Board that legislative requirements are being met.
- Liaise with insurers, HR, managers and external stakeholders on health, safety and wellbeing matters.
- Manage the Health & Safety budget and oversee the provision of personal protective equipment and safety resources.
